Horticultural Student Internship Program
Serpico Landscaping prides itself in offering unlimited opportunities to qualified students to learn how a full-service landscape management company operates. The goal of our 11-week Internship Program is to provide students with a structured, goal oriented, hands-on experience.
Internship Program Outline:
Landscape Maintenance Division / 3 weeks
- Work with a maintenance Crew: mow, trim, prune, blow
- Fertilizer, chemical and pest control experience
- Plant identification
- Quality site inspections
- Client contact
- Work with an Account Manager: schedule, purchase, manage & communicate
Irrigation Water Management Division / 3 weeks
- Repairs: hands on experience with all of the irrigation system components, troubleshooting and repairs
- Irrigation system audit / run through
- Controller programming; Water Management Skills
- System Evaluation and Mapping-Take Over Report
- Water Management Budgets
Landscape Enhancement Division / 1 week
- Installation: hands-on experience with Crew
- Management: design, ordering, scheduling, installation
- Crew management
- Nursery tour
Tree Division / 1 week
- Working on a Tree Crew: pruning, removals, climbing & equipment safety
- TMP - Tree Management Plan
- Working with an Arborist; problem ID, report writing, Crew training
- Client contact
Sales & Management / 2 weeks
- Mission, Vision, Values
- Estimating
- Budgeting
- Safety training programs
- Sales lead development & Sales calls & Client contact
- Leadership training and problem solving; employee relations
- Vendor relationships
Special Project Assignment / 1 week
- Student and Advisor choose a special project to reflect Students interest
- Presentation to Serpico Landscaping Management Team
