Even though landscape work, by nature, poses a fairly low risk of spreading COVID-19, the landscape industry takes the health and safety of employees and clients very seriously.
With the research showing that the virus can live on cardboard for up to 24 hours and on plastic and stainless steel for up to two or three days, it’s important to make sure to disinfect surfaces regularly. This is why we developed the Serpico Landscaping COVID-19 protocol, as we are one of the essential services in California.
Keep reading to learn about the COVID 19 protocol for Serpico Landscaping. We are proactively working to maintain a safe workplace and reduce the spread of coronavirus.
Safety and Workplace Signage
Clear signage is a reminder for each employee and manager to protect ourselves and our customers. Safety protocols are outlined on the signage including:
- The entrance to each facility or worksite states that no one with COVID-19 symptoms should enter.
- People must maintain at least a six-foot distance from others at all times.
- We require face coverings, with medical exceptions.
- Limit shaking hands and other physical contact.
- Cover sneezes and coughs with a tissue, cloth or your elbow.
- Daily temperature checks for all accessing the facilities.
We have additional signs posted at other appropriate locations throughout the facility and worksites as reminders.
Workplace Health Training
We train all employees on the latest protocol and health measures. They are also trained on the basic information from the CDC regarding COVID-19 on how to prevent the spread of viruses, who is especially vulnerable and when to see a doctor if showing symptoms.
Serpico Landscaping employees learn to screen themselves for symptoms like frequent cough, fever, difficulty breathing, chills, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, loss of taste and/or smell using the CDC guidelines. They are instructed to stay home when displaying these symptoms. We follow strict guidelines for when it’s safe to return to work after an illness.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
Break rooms, bathrooms and common areas are disinfected twice a day. High-traffic areas are thoroughly cleaned, and high-contact surfaces like doorknobs and counters are frequently disinfected.
All seating areas are cleaned and sanitized regularly, and cleaning supplies are available to all of our personnel. We have adjusted our operational hours to allow for extra time for cleaning and sanitizing between shifts. We have also implemented a strict routine of disinfecting fleet vehicles, landscape equipment and hand tools daily.
Maintain Social Distancing
The number of people allowed in facilities and on worksites is limited in order to maintain social distancing. One person is designated to monitor social distancing and face-covering protocols. Employees are reminded daily of the company policy.
In-person meetings are discouraged unless absolutely necessary. All desks, chairs and workstations have been adjusted to maintain a minimum of six feet of space. Outdoor break areas with shade cover are available where possible.
Our Serpico Landscaping Team uses outdoor space for interactions with customers and personnel. The administrative staff is working from home. Crews needing to check in to facilities are scheduled in waves to limit the number of people arriving and prepping for the day.
