Serpico gives back to the communities we serve.
After more than 32 years of growing our business, our families and the relationships with our customers in the Bay Area, Serpico Landscaping is grateful for all the good things we’re a part of. We love giving back to the communities we serve in ways we’re passionate about.
Serpico Landscaping works to protect the environment, help families thrive, partner with and grow businesses in the community, and recognize the efforts of our hardworking and dedicated employees.
Some examples of how Serpico Landscaping loves to give back:
Bikes 4 Kids Initiative
Serpico Landscaping launched our Bikes 4 Kids Initiative when working on a plan to both recognize our employees’ superior service and give back to community children in need. Serpico decided that for every written compliment our clients gave throughout the year, we would purchase, assemble and donate a bicycle to the local sheriff’s department. In December, a total of 61 bicycles became holiday gifts for the happy children of Alameda County. At the end of every year, we continue to donate a bicycle for every written compliment our hardworking employees receive.
We love watching the faces of our community’s children light up!
George Mark’s Children’s House
George Mark Children’s House is our very favorite giving back story! In 2008, our Founder and CEO Sharon Serpico Hanson saw an opportunity to give back after watching a news story about the George Mark Children’s House, a palliative care facility designed specifically for children and their families. The Serpico Team met with the George Mark Team and discovered that the best way for Serpico to help the George Mark Children’s House was to donate landscaping services. Serpico Landscaping has been providing weekly lawn, landscaping, trees and irrigation care to George Mark Children’s House every year since. “I wish that people could understand that George Mark is a house full of hope and love—a place of support, joy, and healing. We get way more out of giving to George Mark than George Mark gets from us,” says Sharon.
Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB)
We are proud to say that our longest running community partner is the Alameda County Community Food Bank (ACCFB). At Serpico Landscaping, we believe food is a basic human right and we support initiatives to end hunger and poverty. When the ACCFB purchased their new warehouse in Oakland, we were thrilled to design and install the landscaping at no cost to the food bank. We also maintain the landscaping every week so the money that would have gone to maintaining the grounds can be used for food instead.
We also believe that food shortages during the holidays can be particularly difficult. In lieu of purchasing holiday cards every year, Serpico Landscaping makes a dollar donation to the Alameda County Community Food Bank. We also host food drives at each of our branch locations.
Want to give back, too?
Serpico Landscaping is a staging area for food donation boxes and barrels. If your company wishes to do a food drive, you can come pick up a box or barrel from our Hayward location. This helps the ACCFB save money on fuel and labor used to bring boxes to this side of the Bay Area.
Side By Side
We are partnered with Side By Side to give back to struggling youth in our community. Side By Side offers a wide variety of programs from substance abuse rehabilitation to mental health treatment and awareness initiatives. We work with youth in the Side By Side program to provide them with full time employment or summer internships, and we also provide landscaping services for any of the transitional housing properties at no cost. We love to give gift cards to Side By Side youth during the holidays and have donated work vehicles to the organization as needed.
DECA Castro Valley
In 2018, one of our employees’ daughters approached us about supporting the Castro Valley High School’s DECA program. DECA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit that works with high school teens to help them develop future career skills and apply what they’ve learned in class to the real world. DECA is committed to educating tomorrow’s entrepreneurs through scholarships, competitions, conferences, and continuing education classes.
We are proud of the achievements of our employees and their children and are proud to support the Castro Valley High School DECA program. Serpico Landscaping has made monetary donations to the State Career Development Conference Awards and the Fashion Show fundraiser.
At Serpico Landscaping, we truly enjoy giving back!
For Serpico, it’s not all about the money. When we give back to a community that supports us, we create a long-lasting relationship with the people in our area who we love and care about. We’re always looking for new ways to support our communities.
Do you or your business have a special cause or a suggestion on how we can help? If so, Serpico Landscaping would like to hear from you!
